Imperium properties The Algarve

Portugal, and the Algarve more specifically, is a little different in that residential tourism is key. With the attraction of still being very rural, the Algarve offers numerous stand-alone resorts to cater for clients who like both sun and golf. Additionally, this region has some of the best beaches in the world.

The Portuguese Algarve was nominated number one in the world for investment by Channel 4’s Place in the Sun. The southern coast of Portugal boasts over 30 top golf courses, golden sandy beaches, and a pleasant year-round climate, and is just two hours from the UK and Europe. For many it is Europe’s answer to paradise.

This past year, Portugal seems to have been setting the pace in Europe on sustainable forms of energy. The world’s first commercial wave farm was installed off the Portuguese coast. Meanwhile, plans have been announced for the world’s biggest solar energy station and one of Europe’s largest wind power projects.

When luxury property buyers choose Portugal, it is good for them to know that they are buying in one of the top three European countries most likely to make the most money in the next ten years, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Portugal is well positioned and easily accessible, with most of the UK and Ireland’s regional airports flying directly into Faro every day. The price-to-quality ratio is high, and there is a profitable and expanding rental market. With 30 world-class golf courses and 100 beaches, it is a low-risk investment area. Coupled with property appreciation of up to 20% per annum, one of the lowest costs of living in Europe, a low crime rate and no inheritance tax for immediate family members, it’s not surprising the Algarve remains so popular.
